    Abstract

A two-disk wear test rig which is incorporated with an optical attachment for monitoring the surface roughness changes during the wear tests was developed. The optical system adopts a newly developed technique which is able to capture the roughness of moving surfaces. The new wear rig was validated to be sensitive enough to detect the roughness changes with two running-in tests for PEHL contacts.
