Abstract

This paper describes experiments on three reinforced concrete portal frames under variable repeated loading. The results obtained are almost consistent with the theoretical shakedown values. Thus it can be concluded that the shakedown theorem is also applicable to reinforced concrete structures. This paper points out that with the equal magnitude of loading the variable repeated loading is more disadvantageous than a simply applied load to a structure. In the design of a structure there is a region where the structure may be safe under simply applied load but doesn't shakedown for variable repeated loading.
