Abstract
Carbon nanothreads have been reported with a good synergy of mechanical, thermal, chemical, and electronic properties, having generated extensive research interests. This chapter systematically introduces experimental achievements in fabrication and testing methodology of carbon nanothreads. The challenges and approaches of synthesizing a single-crystalline nanothread with both translational and orientational orders are presented. Several derivatives of diamond nanothreads, i.e., doping carbon nanothreads and functionalized carbon nanothreads are introduced to present the plausible strategy of structural modification for device application.
