Abstract

The origin of magnetism and exchange bias of Mn-doped ZnO tetrapod nanostructures were investigated. The nanostructures were synthesized by evaporating Zn metal under humid argon flow and then Mn was doped into ZnO nanostructures by diffusion at 600°C. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy observations were used to investigate the existence of surface layers in the tetrapods. At 100 Oe field, the zero-field cooled (ZFC) and field cooled (FC) magnetizations of the sample nanostructures were determined. It was observed that the exchange bias in the sample was due to exchange interaction between ferrimagnetic phase in manganese oxides.
