Abstract

This study combines blower-door test to evaluate the penetration factors and deposition rates of fine particles with a diameter of 2.5 μm or less (PM2.5) in a single residential apartment. The concentrations of indoor and outdoor PM2.5 and CO2 were measured to calculate the penetration factor and deposition rate based on a well-mixed air quality model. The traditional method (the concentration rebound method) was conducted in parallel to validate this approach. Statistical methods (e.g. best fit regression and statistical correlation) were used to analyze the monitoring data. The two methods used to estimate the penetration factor and deposition rate produced similar results, with the blower-door method giving a lower uncertainty and was more convenient to perform. Thus, it is feasible to utilize this method instead of traditional one to estimate particle penetration factor and deposition rate.
