Abstract

Anodic oxide films were formed on E-brite 26% Cr-1% Mo stainless steel in 1.0M NaCl+H2SO4 solution (pH 3.3). ESCA and SIMS techniques have been used to determine the composition of the passive film. It was found by both techniques that molybdenum was present on the outermost part of the film, however, it was not detected by Auger electron spectroscopy as reported by other workers. The SIMS results showed that there was a chromium enrichment in the passive film.
