Abstract
This paper reports on a creativity-enhancing learning environment which engaged second language (L2) students at a Hong Kong university in an „English for science‟ project – creating a collaborative multimedia scientific documentary. The study explores the students‟ perspectives of creativity and their evaluation of the documentaries they created. Data were drawn from a student questionnaire, focus group interviews with students, and students‟ online discussion of their learning experiences. The findings reveal that students felt that they were challenged, both technically and linguistically, but that these challenges motivated them to create novel documentaries. The students valued the opportunity of working with their peers in problem solving and learning technical and other skills, and they considered the process of creating the documentary an enjoyable
experience. This study contributes to the existing body of literature on providing a creativity-enhancing environment for L2 students in higher education.
