Abstract

Electricity consumption in the residential sector in Hong Kong from 1971 to 1993 has been gathered and analysed. During the 23-year period, energy use in residential buildings rose by 532%. Information on the building envelope designs is examined. Overall thermal transfer value (OTTV) and building energy simulation techniques have been developed to estimate the likely electricity savings from more energy-efficient building envelope designs. Implications for electricity use in the residential sector are discussed.
