N2 - This paper proposed an embedded lossless wavelet coder using multi-partitioning algorithm in the successive approximation quantization for any degree of compression. Among many successive approximation algorithms in either lossy or lossless image coding, the zerotree characteristic is adopted for achieving higher initial coding performance, and with higher complexity spent on zerotree analysis, too. However, that the benefit in terms of the coding efficiency from the extra symbol zerotree root diminishes with the threshold. Our proposed Multi-Partitioning algorithm for embedded lossless wavelet coder use the space-frequency coefficients as the partitions' lower boundaries dynamically. This algorithm shows a considerable ratedistortion for progressive image transmission and provides a superior coding efficiency for lossless compression compared with other well-known embedded lossless coder.
