Abstract
Physiological functions of biological cells in breast tissues crucially depend on the trace elements present. Here, laser induced breakdown spectroscopy has been developed to perform the trace elemental analysis of breast tissues of rats. Pronounced iron emission lines are observed at 247.6, 387.1, 400.4 and 407.9 nm. Manganese emission lines are observed at 279.6 and 280.3 nm. Copper emission is at 386.2 nm. Cobalt emission is at 388.3 nm. Calcium lines are at 393.4, 396.9 and 422.7 nm. Molybdenum emission is at 405.5 nm. Boron emission is at 516.6 nm. Sodium lines are at 589.0 and 589.5 nm. Iodine is at 746.9 nm. Potassium lines are at 766.4 and 769.9 nm. Lithium emission is observed at 670.7 nm from the mammary glands of subjects administered lithium carbonate orally. Statistical presence (p < 0.05) of trace lithium in breast tissue may affect its overall elemental concentration.
