Abstract

This paper provides simple models for efficiency evaluation of various channel allocation schemes in digital mobile telecommunications networks. The analysis is based on known queuing network results and standard Markovian queuing models. Numerical results are presented to provide insights into efficiency gain under different traffic conditions. Simulation results are presented to verify the accuracy of the simple models and to provide further insights into the effect of handover rate on efficiency for the various channels allocation schemes. We study the accuracy of our models under different arrival and handover rates. We demonstrate that the models are accurate and conservative. We further demonstrate that as the total arrival rate increases, the efficiency of all schemes increases, but the efficiency gained by the more flexible and dynamic channel allocation schemes over fixed channel allocation scheme decreases. We also observe that the blocking probability as well and the drop out probability (from a certain level of handover onwards) reduces as the handover rate increases.
