Abstract

In this paper, the effects of microstructure on fracture toughness were studied in Al-Cu-Mg alloy, including 2024 and 2124. As the ratio of Cu and Mg was similar in both alloys, the impurity elements in 2024 would lead to the formation of A16(Mn,Fe) and Al7Cu2Fe phases, which could affect the tensile strength and fracture toughness of the alloy. With the high Si content in 2024, θ (Mg2Si) phase formed in matrix would impose negative factor in decreasing the mechanical property.
