Abstract

The ductility and shape memory effect of Nd-doped NiAl alloy have been studied by compression test and thermo-mechanical analysis test. It is found that the microalloying element Nd increases the ductility of NiAl alloy and a maximum compression strain of 7.8% was obtained in a NiAl-Nd alloy, which is twice of the strain obtained in NiAl-B alloy. The morphology of the fracture surface was investigated with SEM. The shape memory effect of NiAl-Nd is nice and a completely recoverable strain of 3.3% was obtained.
