Abstract
Atractylodis rhizoma, known as Cangzhu (蒼術), is a medicinal herb for treating abdominal distention, diarrhea and edema. Two species was found; namely Atractylodes lancea (Thunb.) DC. (茅蒼朮) and Atractylodes chinensis (DC.) Koidz. (北蒼朮). Both species are not easily distinguished due to the similarity. To ensure the safety and efficacy for use, microscopic characteristics and the HPLC fingerprints were investigated to provide more information.
