Directional and selective coupling with active Huygens and Janus sources

Abstract

Active Janus and Huygens sources are proposed to investigate the directional properties of their electromagnetic (EM) fields. We use a twin current filament (TCF) model to construct active Janus and Huygens sources. Simulation of this source in a parallel plate waveguide (PPW) environment shows that the Janus and Huygens sources achieve similar far-field performance as their equivalents in 3D space. Investigations in the near field show the active sources possess directive coupling properties in agreement with earlier works featuring ideal Janus and Huygens sources. A discussion on experimental verification is given at the end. This work paves way for the practical generation of the Janus source and its use in directive near-field coupling, with applications to multifunctional device design and near-field energy transmission.
