Abstract

New techniques are presented for measuring or predicting radiation-induced changes in fracture toughness. A single specimen technique, involving precracking and side grooves, was developed to measure dynamic J-integral initiation values using surveillance-type specimens (Charpy V-notch). Critical stress and critical strain models were used to predict the effect of radiation on lower and upper shelf fracture toughness.
