Digital Twinning Everything All-at-Once in Facility Management: A Rapid Configurable, Deployable, and Scalable Platform

Abstract

Facility management (FM) is a collection of information-intensive activities, and digital twin (DT) technology has become a means for FM to achieve better business results. The existing studies have almost focused on some type of facilities or functions, but often ignored the low compatibility and interoperability of different types of twins, which would hinder the practice of DT. In order to provide a universal DT platform to digital twinning everything all at once, a centralized topological DT platform framework of FM was developed, which integrated four components, including data acquisition component, data modeling component, data storage and analysis component, and data visualization and interaction component. The platform was applied in the Smart Laboratory of City University of Hong Kong, and the case showed that the platform could effectively realize the compatibility and interaction between different twins to support rapid configuration, deployment, and scalability of the DT platform and release more potential of DT in FM. © ASCE.
