Abstract
Despite the importance of making sustainable changes to combat climate crisis, we know little about how Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) policies are enacted and enforced by institutions. Our archival study examines the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) and other major parties in Hong Kong that shape the ESG enactments. Using a rich set of data around HKEX’s ESG initiatives and archival data of other key stakeholders, we explore the close connection between CSR and ESG practices in the region. Specifically, our study may generate understanding on how HKEX made use of CSR and ESG as categories to shapes the institutional change.
