Development of a smart metering scheme for building smart grid system

    Abstract

    This paper presents a smart metering system for application in building LV smart grid system. The smarting meter scheme consists of smart metering device, a communication module for wireless or wired data communication, and a central system for power calculation and power quality analysis. The smart meter device captures current or voltage waveform and performs waveform compression function. The waveform compression algorithm is developed from FFTW algorithm and DWPT algorithm. Simulation tests have been conducted to verify the compression capability of the waveform compression algorithm. It is verified that the waveform compression algorithm can achieve an accuracy of 99%. © 2009 IET.
