Abstract

The prediction of the internal daylight levels is a key stage in daylighting designs. In a side-lit room, indoor daylight illuminance may be more nearly proportional to the amount of daylight incident on the window, rather than to the external horizontal illuminance. Recently, we developed a simple method to estimate the vertical daylight illuminance incident on a vertical surface of a building in terms of vertical daylight factor (VDF). This paper extends the work to establish calculation tools for predicting the point-by-point daylight factor based on the VDF. The findings provide an alternative to determine the internal daylight levels when the VDF is available.
