Abstract

This paper uses a genetic algorithm to design an LLC resonant converter with current shaping. With their soft-switching feature, LLC resonant converters possess high conversion efficiency and low electromagnetic interference. Thus, LLC resonant converters have applications as power converters. However, LLC resonant converters require larger output capacitors to achieve high DC output quality because the output current ripples are large. The provided current-shaping network has overcome this drawback by applying resonant circuits. However, no design rule is used for resonant element parameters. Therefore, this study aims to develop a series of methods for designing resonant element parameters and to seek the optimal output current modification to obtain the lowest output current ripples. The experimental results show that these methods can effectively reduce the output current ripples by up to 20.4% when the output is fully loaded. © 2013 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved.
