Abstract

Transverse flux permanent magnet motors (TFPMMs) have received much attention due to simple windings and high reliability. However, existing TFPMs still have problems, such as high cogging torque. Therefore, this paper provides a new TFPMM with step skew crossed teeth structure (SSCT-TFM), which can optimize the reluctance distribution on the stator surface and thus reduce the cogging torque. In addition, the 3D flux of the TFPMM leads to complex thermal design. This paper provides a thermal network model of SSCT-TFM to evaluate the temperature of each part of the motor. A 3D finite element analysis (FEA) model is developed further to analyze the electromagnetic and thermal performance of the SSCT-TFM. Finally, a prototype is manufactured and tested for no-load and load performance. © 2024 IEEE.
