Abstract

A two dimensional discrete element model of driven piles in the crushable sand was developed. A new stress normalization method is adopted to synthesize the data at different driven depth in a deep penetration test. The normalized stresses can be expressed by two-dimensional, axially symmetric functions of the relative position to the pile tip. The normalized vertical stress map has shown qualitative agreement with previous theoretical results in the field, and indicated the vertical stress state that is established in the field is different to what is established in the calibration chamber test.
