Abstract

Personal development is a lifelong learning process. The process starts from setting up a learning plan, participating in learning activities accordingly, consolidating learning experiences, reflecting on what has been learned and making adjustments to the learning plan. Learning happens anytime and anywhere, from well-structured courses to unstructured activities. However, participation in extracurricular activities is not structured and difficult to be used for planning and reflection. We, therefore, developed a method with a repository to record student participation in extracurricular activities, to link such data to intended learning outcomes. By analyzing the data of a group of computer science students, we found a positive correlation between the level of participation in extracurricular activities and academic performance. This can potentially provide a personalized professional development scheme for computer science students for better planning and tracking of their learning through the participation in extracurricular activities.
