Abstract

The creep properties of ferritic Fe-19Cr-4Ni-2Al alloy at 873-973 K under an applied stress range of 70-270 MPa were investigated. The results showed that the alloy exhibits two apparent stress exponents for creep: one in the lower stress regime (n = 2.54) and the other in the higher stress region (n = 11). This was the typical characteristic of precipitation-hardened alloys that exhibit a pronounced transition in the stress vs. creep rate relationship. Moreover, the activation energies for creep (Q) at lower and higher stresses regimes were determined to be 298 and 644 kJ/mol, respectively. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) examination revealed the precipitation of ordered β′ (NiAl)-type particles during creep deformation at the high stresses regime. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.
