Abstract
The cooperative absorption transitions between two Eu3+ ions are reported from measurements of the 80 K absorption spectrum of Eu2O2S. The transitions are 4 to 5 times weaker, relative to single ion f-f transitions due to saturation effects. The energy level scheme and the cooperative absorption transitions are investigated using absorption spectroscopy.
