Abstract

An overview is given on many research efforts conducted recently in the field of residual stresses. The first part deals with the residual stress measurement techniques and the overall necessity to combine destructive and non-destructive methods in order to evaluate precisely the residual stresses distribution. The second part shows the residual stresses obtained by the thermal spraying coating technology which is widely used in the biomedical, automobile, aerospace, textile, and power industries. The last part shows the effect of residual stresses on fatigue behavior.
