Abstract

Treatment of a CpWOs3(CO)9(μ-O)(μ3-CCH2Tol) (1) with excess trimethylphosphite in boiling toluene afforded both an addition product, CpWOs3(CO)9(P(OMe)3)(μ-O)(μ3-CCH2-Tol) (3), and a substitution product, CpWOs3(CO)8(P(OMe)3)(μ-O)(μ3-CCH2)Tol) (4), isolated as crystalline solids in 32% and 21% yields, respectively. From an analogous reaction of 1 with diphenylmethylphosphine only the substitution product CpWOs3(CO)8 (PPh2Me)(μ-O)(μ3-CCH2Tol) (5) was isolated. Complexes 3-5 have been characterized by IR, 1H and 13C NMR, and field desorption mass sepctroscopies. In addition the molecular structure of 5 has been determined by X-ray crystallography.
