Abstract

This study focuses on eight two-character modal auxiliaries, including kěnéng (可能, keneng, 'possible'), kěyǐ (可以, keyi, 'can'), yídìng(一定, yiding, 'must'), yīngdāng (应当, yingdang, 'should'), yīnggāi (应该, yinggai, 'should') bìxū (必须, bixu, 'must'), nénggòu (能够, nennggou, 'can') and yuànyì (必然, biran, 'must be'), and aims to study their distributional (dis)similarities in the web corpus.
