Abstract

Two approaches for modifying existing dynamic lot sizing heuristics to incorporate backlogging are presented. Extensive simulation experiments are designed to compare their relative performance with the recently published two-way eyeballing heuristics (TWEH) for lot sizing with backlogging. Dominant heuristics are identified for different cost and demand conditions. TWEH is the simplest algorithm with good performance. © 1992.
