    Abstract

The market of solar products is growing continuously. Active and passive solar energy technologies are commonly adopted in low-carbon buildings. Recently, there are more and more interests in zero carbon and even positive carbon building developments. This makes it important to maximize the renewable power outputs and thus favors the use of hybrid solar systems. For instance, the combined PV/thermal technology integrates the solar thermal and photovoltaic technologies into a single device, through which thermal and electric power can be generated simultaneously in a controlled manner. In this chapter, the working principle and merits of the PV/T technology are discussed. A range of flat-plate PV/T systems and equipment suitable for building applications are introduced. Also discussed are the criteria for the performance analysis, the environmental impacts, and the directions for future development.
