Chinese architects and their practices - An analysis of a questionnaire analysis

A questionnaire survey was carried out among 1,000 Class I registered architects in seven main cities in China between 2000 and 2001. The investigation tackled aspects of mainland architecture, such as its profession, systems, social environment, the running of design institutes, education and training, architectural practices, and so on. The conclusions and opinions in this article are derived from the statistical results and analysis of the survey. They are also compared with similar surveys from other countries and can be used for reference purposes in deciding professional policies and predicting future trends of architectural design in China. This article is intended to fill the gap caused by a general lack of English literature on this topic.
