Abstract

China is undergoing a dramatic transformation from planned economy to market economy. Housing commercialization has become an inevitable trend since 1990. This paper explores the housing problems of China using Shanghai as a case study. Part 1 describes the basic condition of housing provision in China, Part 2 lists the problems and constraints of current housing and explores the reasons for them, Part 3 introduces current housing reform in Shanghai and Part 4 discusses the problems emerging in this reform, and also gives some alternative strategies.
