Abstract
Atmospheric blocking (“blocking”) is characterized by strong meridional-type circulation. Its persistence over Ural-Siberia in boreal winter may exert a high impact on the regional climate in southeast Asia. Here, we present the preliminary result showing the blocking characteristics over the region in two of the future climate conditions of NorESM CMIP5 datasets. It suggests that the occurrence of blocking may not be lower over Ural-Siberia in a warmer climate. However, the blocking events, as well as their impact on East Asian cold surges, may be weaker.
