Abstract
The parallel between the channel assignment of multilayer cellular networks and grading designs first used in analogue telephone exchanges is drawn. This allows the use of approximated results developed for grading designs to the calculation of call congestion in multilayer cellular networks. In addition, approximations based on the equivalent random method are developed for the case of a two-layer cellular network.
