Broadband reflectarray with single layer sub-wavelength patch elements fed by SIW tapered slot antenna

Abstract

A broadband reflectarray antenna consists of the elements of square patches with sub-wavelength periodicity, printed on a single-layer substrate, and an SIW-Based ALTSA (Antipodal Linear Tapered Slot Antenna) acting as fed is proposed and designed for bandwidth enhancement. It has about 16.5 % bandwidth for -1.0 dB gain-drop from the peak value, which is obviously wider than that of conventional reflectarray. It is indicated that the phase dynamic range in sub-wavelength periodicity reflectarry is not the key reason to effect on its bandwidth. © 2012 IEEE.
