Abstract
Trust has long been a subject of enquiry in management and information systems (Sheppard and Sherman 1998; McKnight, Choudhury, Kacmar 2002). In this talk, we conceptualize a new type of trust called blockchain-enabled trust, which is at the core of trustless computing, a concept arising from the recent surge of cryptocurrencies and blockchain applications. The Economist magazine called blockchain the trust machine without explaining the internal mechanisms of trust. In this talk, we delve into the inner workings of blockchain-enabled trust. As shown in Figure 1, all blockchains do not entail the same mechanisms and may enable different levels of trust.
