Abstract
This paper presents a modified ground plane design for a circular vertical patch antenna (VPA). The circular-VPA is surrounded by a circular corrugated ground and it has around 10% impedance bandwidth and 8 dBi gain. This design yields a significant reduction in cross-polarization radiation and back radiation levels over a bandwidth in excess of 9.5%. A 15 dB reduction in the cross-polarization and 15 dB suppression in the backlobe were obtained at the center frequency. Stable and broadside patterns are maintained across the matching band. Details of the proposed antenna, simulation and experimental results are presented and discussed. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave.
