Abstract

This special issue contains 39 papers covering recent advances in mangrove studies, including: diurnal gas exchange characteristics and water use efficiency of three salt-secreting mangroves; tidal asymmetry in mangrove creeks; ecographic variation in Kandelia candel from Brunei, Hong Kong and Thailand; impact of expected climate change on mangroves; population dynamics of the mangrove Avicennia marina; the decay of mangrove leaf litter; ecology of mangrove fungi; continental scale patterns in mangrove litter fall; growth performance of two mangrove crabs; the evolution of mangroves; community structure and standing crop biomass of a mangrove forest in Shenzhen, China; mangrove outwelling; the use of demographic studies in mangrove silviculture; spatial and temporal variations of mangrove fish assemblages in Martinique; mangroves and brackishwater pond culture in the Philippines; mangroves as filters of shrimp pond effluent; the distribution of mangrove-associated gastropod snails in Hong Kong; and the ecology of mangrove conservation and management.
