N2 - It is quite remarkable how widespread and popular the Internet is nowadays. The use of Web browsers is no longer restricted to only the scientific and academic communities. With increased popularity, users also demand more interactive and timely form of Web browsing. Information sources on Internet are no longer static and isolated; instead information has become distributed and dynamic. A typical example is stock market information. Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Singapore stock markets are located in different places and the prices are quite dynamic. It would be nice if the user can view “live” consolidated data from multiple sources at the same time on the same browser screen. However for backward compatible reason, current browser technologies built on top of existing protocols and infrastructures cannot satisfy these needs. On the other hand, the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) and its Object Web vision enables this type of real-time distributed browsing. In this paper, we present a new type of browser, which we call the Object Web Browser that browses not only HTML pages but also objects in the Intergalactic Object Web. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 1999
