Abstract
This chapter discusses the most important anesthetic considerations in cats in a practical and applied manner. The cat is unique. There are several anatomical, physiological and pharmacological features that makes them a challenge species to anesthetize. This Q&A section addresses particular concerns in cats regarding risk of anesthesia, premedication and sedation, anesthetic monitoring and analgesia. Suggested approaches for the very aggressive cat and for spay/neuter programs are outlined.
