Abstract

Fault-tolerant permanent magnet synchronous machine with modular structure has become a research hotspot in the field of electric vehicles. Based on the fault conditions it may be faced with, this paper investigates the effect the one-phase open-circuit fault will have on the radial force density and vibration performance compared with normal condition. Firstly, the paper introduces the modular fault-tolerant topology. Secondly, based on Maxwell stress tensor method, the theoretical analysis of the air-gap magnetic fields and radial force density under open-circuit fault is proposed, and the additional harmonic components are listed. With the help of the finite element analysis, simulation results are given to verify the theoretical analysis. Finally, through the acceleration response and its harmonic spectrum, we can get explicit results of vibration characteristic. These results can help analyze and mitigate the modular machine's vibration in the engineering practice.
