Analysis of rectangular dielectric waveguides: effective-index method with built-in perturbation correction

Abstract

An effective-index method with built-in perturbation correction is developed for the analysis of rectangular dielectric waveguides. Numerical examples show that this method is more accurate than other methods of comparable simplicity in calculating the dispersion characteristics and the cutoff frequencies.
