Abstract

Fused couplers of various cross-sections are analyzed by the effective-index method. Results show good agreement with those given by an asymptotic analysis. It is also shown that a stadium-shaped coupler which resembles the realistic one has the polarization beam-splitting property similar to that of a rectangular one.
