    Abstract

    This paper presents a review of elastic waves in carbon nanotubes (CNTs) studied through continuum mechanics and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The nonlocal continuum models play an important role in studying wave propagation in CNTs. The applicability of the nonlocal continuum models based on the MD simulation results is summarized. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.
