Abstract
In the implementation of the triangular-domain basis functions for the analysis of microstrip interconnects, new schemes are developed to construct the method of moments impedance matrix. These schemes are compared to the original method developed by Rao, Wilton, and Glisson (RWG) in terms of efficiency and accuracy. An important feature of the schemes is that the symmetry of the matrix is retained such that only the diagonal and the upper triangular portions of the matrix are stored. A banded matrix iterative algorithm is then applied to solve this symmetry matrix. The matrix fill time is reduced by a factor of 2 when compared to RWG. The matrix solve time is also reduced by a factor of 10 when compared to the full matrix inversion often used in RWG. © 1994 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
