Abstract
An improved Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT), which is a novel time-frequency analysis method, was proposed. The improved HHT utilizes the wavelet packet transform to act as a preprocessor to decompose the raw signal into a set of narrow band signals. The original HHT and the improved HHT were used to analyze simulated and experimental vibration signals generated from different degrees of severity in rubbings. The results confirmed that the improved HHT is a promising tool for analyzing rubbing vibration signal that exhibited nonlinear and non-stationary properties.
