Abstract
An algorithm based on the isoparametric formulation of the finite element methods is presented for segmenting digital plane curves which consist of straight lines and arcs. Isoparametric shape functions make it possible to generate curves that have straight and arbitrarily curved segments using the natural coordinate transformation. The strong attributes of this algorithm include robustness and simplicity.
