AN ADVANCED 3-Cr-Mo-Ni STEEL FOR HYDROGEN SERVICE

Abstract

The microstructural features contributing to improved mechanical properties and hydrogen attack resistance have been studied. Carbide precipitation kinetics were accelerated in 3Cr steel compared with 21/4Cr-1Mo steel. Superior tensile properties combined with good toughness levels and resistance to hydrogen attack have been attributed to the presence of higher alloy carbides and elimination of Fe//3C from the microstructure.
