Abstract

Harmonics are commonly encountered in the unbalanced three-phase power system. They can cause oscillation of the nominal frequency, which damages the stability of the electrical system. In this paper, an adaptive batch-mode frequency estimator is devised to monitor this variation. After converting the three-phase waveforms into a complex-valued signal via αβ-transformation, a high-resolution spectral method, namely, iterative adaptive approach, is first employed to obtain the spectrum of each fixed-length observations. Then the frequency is estimated based on the largest spectrum peak. Computer simulations show that our proposed algorithm is more reliable than the complex least mean square (CLMS) and augmented CLMS in the presence of harmonics and other interferences.
